I was reading Colossians the other day and read this verse:
Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone. Colossians 4:5-6
I have read that verse several times in my life, but when I read it the other night, something new hit me. The word “attractive”. I am called to live an “attractive life.” One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Matthew 5:13-16, basically saying that we are to be salt and light to the world.
When I read this verse in Colossians though, my world was rocked. I think so often I read the verse in Matthew and thought to myself, yea, I’m totally salt and light to this dark world…It is easy for US to say that WE are living that way…but then I read Colossians, and the word attractive made me think differently.
See, to be told that your life is attractive means that SOMEONE ELSE noticed it. Other people saw the way you lived and it literally attracted them to the Lord. The word attractive carries a responsibility, because it calls for others to recognize the way you live. I still absolutely love Matthew 5:13-16, but this verse struck something in me that I had never realized before. If we are not being bold with the Gospel, and truthful in the way we live our lives, then what are we doing?
My new mantra:
